Halloween Abaya

This abaya is fit for halloween – and no other occation.

I mean what is that? Looks like a mix of curtains/last years witch costume/wannabe fashionable gulf abaya. Please make sure not to be seen in anything like this!!

I think it’s great and wouldn’t mind having one myself. It would never cross my mind to associate it with Halloween – but then again, what do I know? Alhamdulillah I have managed to take up residence in a place where Halloween is not celebrated. But that was the better part of 20 years ago – long enough ago to all but forget that such a day exists!

Seriously, I am not a Muslimah, but my personal dress code is quite similar in some ways. Until very recently it was nearly impossible to get hijab for a woman over 6 feet tall on the Net, so I figured I was stuck with having stuff custom made. What a problem – in a society where people think clothes are made to reveal instead of conceal – to find a seamstress who is willing to be artistic AND respectful!

What I’m driving at is, if inshaAllah I find the right person, I will tell her that everything except… must be concealed, including: I don’t admit publicly to having a waist or hips, but it’s got to be nice and artistic enough that no one will quite notice just how little flesh they can see… And I admit that that… item above looks incredibly Western, but still, it fits the bill quite nicely, for the wintertime anyway 😉

Forgive me for going on like this – where I live, there are very few people one can talk to sensibly about this kind of thing…

That is scary. I’m a muslim and I wear jilbabs and abayas but I would never wear that. I do how ever like the hijab with it.
