The Failed Artist

On my first day in Oslo, Norway actually leaving my mother’s place, I wasn’t really dressed great. Everything was casual and comfy – the shoes sort of had to be as I messed up my left one after several days of sightseeing by foot on bad heels. Pictures of my outfits were taken in a hurry with my cell phone before running to catch the tram, and one of the picture files was even damaged (note the line dividing one of the three pictures at the bottom). What I do have for you today, however, are two pieces of evidence of a time ten years back when I had both the time and patience to be creative beyond just dressing and getting made-up.

That’s right. In 2003 I was so bored, I painted these two pictures in the background here. The one to the left (which is actually the second of the two in order of creation) is in my gorgeous friend Sarah’s possession (also seen in the picture – haven’t seen homegirl for two whole years!), and the one to the right is at my mom’s place.

I’m pretty sure I could do much, much better now. Obviously, the lady’s eyebrows are crooked, and you all know how carefully I shape and even out my own at this point. Asymmetrical eyebrows – I’m not a fan.

Sugar Rush

OD’ing on candy trying to use up what’s left in my closet of this summer’s pastels. Can’t even put my glasses on straight… How do you transition between summer and fall? What do you do with the many leftovers from last season?

I’m back!

Salam; hi all,

After a 3-4 year long break from the blogosphere, I’ve returned. Much has changed; I’ve been living in the US for the last 3.5 years, started and finished my undergrad studies, and completed the first year of my PhD studies. During this same time, I’ve gone through numerous style and hijab phases, some more successful than others. If any of my old readers are still around, I do apologize for my silence throughout all these years; a lot was on my plate. To both old and new readers; welcome! I will attempt to update this blog with my personal style a couple of times a week, so keep coming back for new posts. Oh, one more thing; please ignore/pretend that you don’t see my awkwardly fobalicious posts from the past.

The lovely designs of Reham Farouq

YAY! I just discovered some new designs of Egyptian designer Reham Farouq. Enjoy it. I know I did 🙂 Does she still design for Veil? Does anybody know?

Owwwww, how I love the last outfit with the abaya/jilbab/galabiya like dress 🙂 Which one of these is your favorite outfit? Are you loving or leaving the Egyptian hijab style?

Egyptian winters

Although these pictures are old, I still love the combination of wintery colors. This is Egyptian autumn/winter to me…

I can’t believe it’s less than two weeks till I’m there insha’a Allah. I can’t wait to run around buying tons of scarves. I can’t wait to eat koshary. I don’t have to wait either, I just have too much to finish before I leave :S

What do you think about this style minus the makeup?
