Compassionate fashion

Nobody ever said that fashionistas had to be heartless.

Last night, the NYU Arab Students United chapter hosted “Compassionate Fashion,” a benefit for the non-governmental humanitarian organization Islamic Relief. The event featured a runway fashion show, musical performances and spoken word presentations.

“We knew that we wanted to do a fashion/arts thing, and we thought that being an Arab organization, Iraq is something that is important to us and something that has been neglected in terms of humanitarian assistance, even by us,” said Aisha Gawad, the president of Arab Students United. “We decided to donate the proceeds to Islamic Relief because it is an organization that has been approved by the U.S. Department of State to work in Iraq the whole time when other charities haven’t.” Read the full article here.

What a nice initiative. Too bad I couldn’t find more pictures of the fashion, I would really like to see more.
